General Shop Safety

If it is not safe, it is not ready. Stop, fix, or ask.

1. Our standard

Cody's Automotive exists to serve customers with honesty, integrity, and 5-star care. A safe shop protects our people, our customers, and our reputation. Safety is not a department — it is part of excellence.

2. Core rules for every employee

  • Follow Supervisor instructions and posted safety rules.
  • Wear required PPE for the area and task.
  • Stay clocked in when moving customer vehicles.
  • No horseplay, fighting, or reckless behavior on Company property.
  • No alcohol, illegal drugs, or impairment at work.
  • Report injuries, near-misses, and hazards promptly.
  • Keep your area clean and exits clear.
  • Only operate equipment you are trained and authorized to use.

3. Customers and visitors

  • Customers should remain in designated waiting / office areas unless escorted.
  • Do not allow untrained visitors to operate lifts, tools, or drive vehicles in the shop.
  • Keep conversation areas clear of active repair bays when possible.

4. Fire and electrical

  • Know where extinguishers are and keep them accessible.
  • Do not block electrical panels or extinguishers.
  • Report frayed cords, damaged outlets, or unusual smells/smoke immediately.
  • Store flammables per shop rules — away from ignition sources.

5. Ergonomics and lifting

  • Lift with your legs, not your back; keep loads close to your body.
  • Get help for heavy or awkward parts — team lifts are expected, not a weakness.
  • Use carts, engine hoists, and transmission jacks when appropriate.

6. Reporting and no retaliation

Report safety concerns to your Supervisor or management. Good-faith reporting is expected and will not be punished. Hiding hazards puts the whole team at risk.
