Shop Safety Protocol

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Fil-Co Solutions · Cody's Automotive · Read on site · Print anytime

If required PPE is not available — stop the task and tell your Supervisor before continuing.

1. Purpose

PPE reduces injury risk from chemicals, debris, noise, sparks, sharp edges, and vehicle movement. The right gear is required for the job — not optional. 5-star care starts with a safe shop.

2. All shop floor / production areas

  • Safety glasses with side protection (or prescription safety glasses) while on the shop floor.
  • Closed-toe, sturdy work shoes; slip-resistant preferred. No sandals or open-toe footwear.
  • Shirt and pants that cover skin appropriately for shop work (avoid excessively loose clothing near rotating equipment).

3. Under vehicle / lifts / suspension work

  • Safety glasses at all times.
  • Use jack stands rated for the vehicle — never rely on a jack alone.
  • Keep head and body clear of the drop path of components.

4. Grinding, cutting, or flying debris

  • Safety glasses plus face shield when grinding or cutting.
  • Hearing protection when noise is high or prolonged.
  • Appropriate gloves for the task (cut-resistant when handling sharp metal).

5. Chemicals, cleaners, brake work, battery

  • Chemical-resistant gloves suitable for the product.
  • Safety glasses or goggles when splash risk exists.
  • Follow the product label and SDS for any additional PPE.

6. Detail / chemical wipe-down

  • Gloves when using strong cleaners, solvents, or polishes.
  • Eye protection when spraying or when splash is possible.
  • Ensure ventilation when using solvent-based products.

7. Care and replacement

  • Inspect PPE before use — cracked lenses, torn gloves, or damaged gear must be replaced.
  • Clean and store PPE so it is ready for the next shift.
  • Ask your Supervisor if you need a replacement size or type.

8. Responsibility

Every employee wears required PPE. Supervisors enforce the standard. Customers and visitors in production areas need appropriate eye protection when required by shop rules.

Acknowledgment — I have read and understand this PPE protocol. I will follow these rules and ask questions when needed.
